Lawrence works with main contractors, sub-contractors and contract managers, making and defending claims relating to construction contracts or arising out of construction projects.
As a member of Holmes & Hills' Legal 500 recommended team of Construction Law solicitors, Lawrence works with clients within the construction industry to highlight potential risks associated with projects, mitigate exposure to said risks or make claims relating to construction contracts with a view to resolving disputes as favourably and cost-effectively as possible.
Lawrence has been personally ranked as 'Up and Coming' by Chambers and Partners, as well as being named as a 'Next Gen Partner' by the Legal 500.
Lawrence’s client base includes main contractors and large sub-contractors based in East Anglia, the South East and London, many of which operate nationally. Lawrence also advises and represents end-consumers (residential and commercial property owners), who have engaged the services of builders and other trades and whom have a dispute to resolve during the course of works or post-completion.
As well as having excellent relationships with his clients, Lawrence works in partnership with professionals from across the industry, including construction consultants, quantity surveyors and construction industry trade associations.
Lawrence works closely with fellow Construction Law specialist and Partner at Holmes & Hills Solicitors, Sam Bawden.
Taking a pragmatic and commercial approach when advising and representing clients, Lawrence recognises the often material value of the contracts his clients are engaged in and therefore the potential considerable value of claims that arise from them. Lawrence provides clients with clear advice on their legal position with regards to their contractual rights and obligations and sets out the options, discussing the merits of and risks of each approach with clients.
Lawrence advises on the full range of Construction Law issues and claims, including:
Where advising clients pre-signing of contracts, Lawrence undertakes thorough reviews of contracts at a cost-effective rate, ensuring clients recognise their obligations and any risks they may exist within clauses that might threaten the financial viability of the project for the client; including in respect of revenue, profitability and cashflow considerations, all of which can turn on a single clause.
Within the field of Construction Law, Lawrence has particular experience in advising and representing clients in respect of Adjudications, including advising on the capitalisation of ‘Smash and Grab’ Adjudication opportunities and the defence of such claims. Lawrence also has a wealth of experience advising on the effective enforcement of Adjudicator’s decisions, Arbitrator’s awards and Technology and Construction Court (TCC) rulings.
Lawrence has specialised in Construction Law since qualifying as a solicitor and had additional construction experience prior to qualification. Lawrence trained and qualified at Holmes & Hills. Following qualification Lawrence was recruited into the Construction and Engineering Team at a leading regional law firm and also gained experience in the Construction and Engineering Team of an international law firm, being based at their London office.
