Today marks the opening of the public consultation regarding the scheme formerly known as East Anglia GREEN but now branded “Norwich to Tilbury”. The stated rational behind that name change being to “include specific locations in their names to make it easy for people to understand what and where we are proposing to build new grid infrastructure”.
The scheme retains approximately 183km of overhead lines and pylons, in addition to underground cabling, across the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Ipswich. The Cable Sealing End compounds are noteworthy as are new and upgraded substations.
The scheme travails 10 Local Planning Authorities and over 100 Parish Councils – suffice to say the footprint is significant. Not a surprise given that this “Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project” is proposed to be the subject of an application for a Development Consent Order in 2025 with construction (assuming a DCO is made) proposed to commence from 2027.
The most recent update is that the Project is the subject of a second non-statutory consultation which runs between 27 June to 21 August 2023.
National Grid are inviting members of the Public to comment upon the latest proposals which can be viewed and given via this link.
There are also various public consultation events at which people can view and take away printed materials, in addition to meeting members of National Grid’s projects team and professional advisers. The full list of consultation events is below:
