The annual Holmes & Hills Solicitors Charity Bike Ride took place on Sunday 10th September. The event which has been running since 2005 was attended by over 300 riders this year and raised over £6,100 for two charities: The British Heart Foundation and Abbeyfield (Braintree, Bocking & Felsted). The total amount of money raised is set to increase as sponsorship monies are collected and will be split evenly between the two charities.
The bike ride appeals to riders of all abilities, with a choice of 3 separate routes: 11, 26 or 53 miles starting in Halstead and encompassing the scenic countryside of north Essex. Once the riders had completed their course they were rewarded with complimentary refreshments and a BBQ, which was no doubt much needed at this point.
The bike ride depends on a number of volunteers to support the event, without whom it would be impossible for the event to run successfully. This year it included over 25 members of staff from Holmes & Hills as well as a number of local community groups including Halstead in Bloom, Halstead Rotary, Halstead U3A and Tiptree U3A. In addition, Lobbs Cycle provided free bike repairs for the number of riders who were unfortunate enough to encounter problems such as punctures. Local photographer Rachel Willett also provided her services free of charge to capture the riders on camera throughout the day.
On the event, Marc Shaw, British Heart Foundation Area Fundraising Manager (East) said:
“The British Heart Foundation relies on community events such as this to continue the fight for every heartbeat, Holmes & Hills support and the support of all those who took part and raised funds will help fund our life saving research which aims to improve the lives of the 7 million people affected by heart disease in the UK.”
Phil Davies, Partner & Head of Business Development at Holmes & Hills commented:
“We would like to say well done and thank you to the 300 riders who took part despite the tough weather conditions. The support we receive each year from local businesses and community groups who kindly donate their time to help marshal the event, or by donating prizes for the tombola make all the difference in ensuring the event is a success. We are incredibly proud to help raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Abbeyfields – two charities that are incredibly close to the hearts of many of the staff at Holmes & Hills.”
The Holmes & Hills bike ride occurs annually with the next bike ride planned for Sunday 9th September 2018.
