Holmes & Hills Solicitors in Halstead has raised £8679 for Macmillan Cancer support.
Organised in September each year, the Holmes & Hills Charity Bike Ride is the largest cycling fundraising event in Halstead. This year’s bike ride was in support of Macmillan and was the most successful to date with a record breaking number of 341 riders setting off from the firm’s office at Trinity street, Halstead.
Claire Husband – Essex Fundraising Manager for Macmillan commented: “A huge thank you to Holmes and Hills for organising such a wonderful event and for choosing Macmillan as this year's beneficiary charity. The money raised will make such a huge difference to people affected by cancer. As an example £8,278 could help run a large Macmillan information and support centre like the one at Colchester General Hospital for a month.
A visit to a cancer information and support centre provides people affected by cancer with the chance to ask questions and talk through their concerns with specialist staff and trained volunteers. The centres hold booklets and leaflets about cancer and information on financial support. Many centres have benefits advisers available to help and some offer complementary therapies too. A big thanks also to all the riders who took part on the day and the team of volunteers who helped make it all come together on the day. We had a fantastic day and hope you all did too!”
Katie Chan, Marketing Executive at Holmes & Hills Solicitors said: “We were delighted to see so many riders out in the sun enjoying themselves. The bike ride gets bigger each year, this year we have riders came from as far as Scotland. Special thanks must go to all the volunteers who helped out on the day from marshalling to manning the tombola stall. Members from Essex Macmillan (Braintree) and local community groups: Halstead in Bloom, Halstead Rotary Club and the Halstead U3A were present on the day to help. Lobbs Cycles in Halstead also provided free repairs service in support of the even, making it a real community effort.”
