Specialist construction solicitors, Sam Bawden and Lawrence Pearce of Holmes & Hills Solicitors, delivered a webinar to students on CIOB (Chartered Institute of Builders) accredited college and university courses following a request from the CIOB to share some of their expertise.
Sam and Lawrence delivered the webinar ‘An Introduction to Construction Law’ to students across the UK and internationally studying CIOB accredited college and university courses. The webinar was part of a series of events being organised by the CIOB to support students in their learning, expose them to industry figures and to give them a wider understanding of industry issues beyond the core of study material.
Commenting on the training session, Sam Bawden, Construction Law specialist and Partner at Holmes & Hills, said:
“Holmes & Hills Solicitors is only to happy to lend our support to the CIOB in their efforts to support students in their learning in what must have been a very difficult year for them. The webinar series is a great initiative and I can only imagine it will be well received by students looking to gain a wider understanding of the matters of concern within the construction industry.”
Sam and Lawrence spoke about the Construction Law landscape in broad terms, what is actually meant by the phrase Construction Law, specifically discussing the Construction Act - Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (as amended) and the Scheme for Construction Contracts (England and Wales) Regulations 1998 (as amended), alongside other statutes and regulations. The team also discussed some important case law examples, the nature of typical disputes within the construction industry and the common network of contractual relationships surrounding construction projects, as well as the dispute resolution mechanisms available.
