1.    Comprehensive overview of 2024 Employment Law changes:

  • Extension of redundancy protection
  • Flexible working changes
  • Flexibility for paternity leave
  • Right to carer’s leave
  • Changes to TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings - Protection of Employment)
  • Holiday pay updates
  • Introduction of the fire and rehire ACAS code (effective 18 July 2024)

Future changes to note:

  • New law and code of practice on tips – Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 (effective 1 October 2024)
  • Right to request a more predictable working pattern – Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Act 2023 (effective September 2024)
  • Duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment – Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) (effective October 2024)

2.  Anticipated changes under the new Labour government:

  • Following the King's Speech on 17 July 2024, the Labour government is set to introduce a comprehensive Employment Rights Bill (ERB) aimed at banning exploitative practices and enhancing employment rights.
  • Charlotte will discuss the proposed changes and how businesses that employ staff can begin to prepare their organisations for the expected reforms.
